AbstractDecember 13 and 14, 2016 data from multi-instruments were used to study the ionospheric plasma irregularity behavior at the low latitude station of São Luís. The instruments, located at this site, were the MELISSA VHF backscatter coherent radar, one Digisonde, one AFRL VHF receiver and one GNSS scintillation monitor. The data analysis was performed based on the GNSS amplitude scintillation indices S4 from the GNSS receivers and from the VHF receiver, TEC maps, TEC keograms and vertical plasma drift inferred from the Digisonde. As expected for December solstice, typical pre-midnight irregularities were observed in the magnetically quiet 13/14 night, however at about 01 LT on day 14 a short lived plasma irregularity was observed simultaneously with an increase in the vertical plasma drift inferred from Digisonde data. Manifestation of this post-midnight plasma irregularity was a radar plume, that extended from about 150 to 500 km of altitude. Simultaneous Digisonde true height and VHF receiver S4 amplitude index increases were observed. No GNSS S4 amplitude index increase and signature at TEC maps occurred during the event time interval. Discussions about the probable origin of this post-midnight anomalous plasma irregularity will be presented.
